long time lurker first post lol ive played fighting games uncapped forever cuz I thuoght more FPS always means less lag. then a friend told me to cap at a few frames below my 120 Hz refresh rate with RTSS. it honestly felt smoother. now Im confused. whats the actual answer here? ;) ive seen people swear by both approaches, and the explanations online contradict each other. im not a pro, but Id like to understand whats actually happening with input lag here. thx in advance for sharing what works for you. seriously need help here 😭
Does Anyone Else Run Fighting Games Uncapped, And Why?
Accepted solution
Jump to the replyahh classic capping reduces heat, power and fan noise, especially in menus... many games also have a separate menu frame limit setting. good luck man!
reflex is available, but I never turned it on. sorry for the wall of text lol
oof frame time consistency matters more than average FPS for perceived smoothness. A stable capped rate often feels better than a fluctuating higher one.
ok so for me it was the fan curve... swapped it and boom, fixed
ok but any update on this? ??
@malik_lucky omggg tested with a frame time graph like suggested, the capped line is way flatter.. 😅 sticking with the cap.
Constant hitches every time I enter a new area on a RTX 4080, and its not my FPS (pls help)
