  1. i lost a ranked match to this today, sooo forgive the tone... an open-world RPG hard-freezes during opening teh map and then i get this:

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

it says teh device was removed. removed! two weeks ago i had zero crashes. in between, teh only change was the GeForce Notebook Graphics Driver 301.24 Beta update. my friends on teh same game with different cards are fine. what does this error actually mean and how do i prove whether its the driver or my card? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

reading release notes like its a horror novel

  2. Is there an Event ID 4101 or a nvlddmkm/amdkmdag error in the System log at teh crash time? ??

  4. Do a clean install of the driver version you trust: download it from the NVIDIA support page, disconnect teh network, boot to Safe Mode, run DDU, rbeoot, install. Then test teh game for a few sessions before changing anything else. good luck man!

  5. remove any GPU overclock and memory overclock... device removed errors are very sensitive to VRAM instability... if you used a tuning tool, reset it to defaults and also check that no profile reapplies at startup. good luck man!

  7. look at teh games own crash logs too. many engines write a log with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG vs DEVICE_REMOVED vs DEVICE_RESET. Hung usually means a timeout; removed can also mean the card actually dropped off the bus, which points at power or the slot. good luck man!

  8. been there man to stop Windows Update replacing your chosen driver: run gpedit.msc (Pro) and enable Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates, on Home, use System > About > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device Installation Settings > No. hope that helps :)

    it works on my machine™

  9. wait what I'd try one older driver before doing DDU. If the older one is stable, you've proven it's driver related in ten minutes.
