guys pls help genuine question, not a rant. Is a soldered SSD actually necessary for mdoern designs, or just convenient for manufacturers?? I'm buying a new ultrabook soon and I'm torn between a sleek sealed model and a slightly tihcker one that I could fix…
Unpopular among my friends: i think consoles are the better choice for most people who play big story games. You sit down, press a button, play. PC is great if you enjoy teh tinkering, but most ppl dont. As a new parent, conveniecne wins. Who agrees and who…
ugh. ive been tinkering with computers for five years and this one bugs me: laptops dont need to be thinner. Every review praises the opposite, every product launch doubles down, and i just dont see the benefit in my daily life. Maybe Im missing something.…

real story: I installed Fedora for a gamer six months ago. most things just work. the one ongoing headache is fingerprint readers. I'm curious whether others have had the same experience, and whether we're honest enough about the rough parts when we…
so annoyed rn debate: soldered RAM should be considered a defect, not a design choice. My ultrabook is four years old and the only thing wrong with it is the one part I can't replace. Tell me if I'm being unreasonable. Everything else, teh screen, teh…

so annoyed rn debate time. position A: Linux is ready for most home users today. position B: as long as fingerprint readers is a problem, its not ready for a non technical friend 😅 im somewhere in the middle. where are you, and do you have stories to back…
so annoyed rn debate prompt: subscriptions are fairer than one time purchases because software needs constant updates and secruity fixes. I half believe it. Then my password manager raised its price again and I started looking for open source alternatives.…
long time lurker first post lol every year someone says its finally the year of the Linux desktop. im wondering if it quietly already happened. ive been thinking about putting Ubuntu on a machine for a gamer. browsing, email, video calls, maybe some light…

ok weird one i want a real debate, not a flame war lol recently, during a livestream, an update on my work laptop failed and left me on the spinning dots. One side says auto updates protect people who would never patch on their own. The other side says a…
Okay, Ill go first sooo nobody else has to feel brave: 4K gaming is a waste for most ppl. There, i said it. Ive owned enough gadgets over five years to have an opinion and Im sticking to it. Lets keep this friendly though. Whats teh tech belief u hold that…
Ive always been teh person telling friends to keep updates on. Then ten minutes before a client presentation, my work laptop decided to update, failed, and undid itself after three restarts. I still believe updates matter for security. But teh timing and the…
