help!! real story: i installed Fedora for a non-technical friend six months ago. most things just work. the one ongoing headache is a specific Adobe app. im curious whether others have had the same experience, and whether were honest enough about the rough parts when we recommend Linux to people. everything else has been smooth: updates, browsing, video calls. nobody has called me about a virus once, which is a first. so is the problem Linux, or my expectations??
would you install fedora on a computer for a non-technical friend?
sorry forgot to say the only must-have is the thing related to a specific Adobe app. everything else has alternatives. idk what else to say tbh
lol same thing happened to me office formatting is real. libreOffice opens most documents fine, but complex layouts and macros can break. if someone shares documents with Office users daily, the web version of Office in a browser is a practical workaround.
games with kernel-level anti-cheat are still the biggest real blocker... many single player games run through Proton on Steam, but check each game's status on a compatibility database before switching a gamer.
ok so for basic use, browsing, email, documents and video calls, a mainstream distro like AlmaLinux is very usable today. The browser is most peoples operating system now, and that runs teh same everywhere.
@inesn337 yesss tested a live USB on their machine, everything worked except a specific Adobe app, which we solved with a workaround. now Fedora is installed and theyre happy. u guys are the best!!!
