  1. so annoyed rn debate time. position A: Linux is ready for most home users today. position B: as long as fingerprint readers is a problem, its not ready for a non-technical friend 😅 im somewhere in the middle. where are you, and do you have stories to back it up? ive used both for years and I can see good arguments on each side. real experiences from people who swicthed someone else would be especially weclome here.

  4. lol same thing happened to me for basic use, browsing, email, documents and video calls, a mainstream distro like Debian is very usable today. The browser is most ppl's operating system now, and that runs the same everywhere.

  5. oof office formatting is real. libreOffice opens most documents fine, but complex layuots and macros can break. if someone shares documents with Office users daily, the web version of Office in a browser is a practical workaround.

Try before switching: boot a live USB and test Wi-Fi, sound, webcam, printer and teh specific apps first. Hardware surprises show up in the first ten minutes. fingers crossed 🤞

  7. @gabe_early yesss decided against it for a non-technical friend. the one app they need isn't worth fighting. still using Linux myself tho.
