The photo printer is used daily in a small office and people are complaining. The HP driver had all the features we need. The Windows Update one is basic. i've reinstalled the vendor one twice and it keeps getting replaced. Is there a way to block just this dirver update? Bonus question: why does it do this in teh first place?

  2. on Pro editions, Group Policy can exclude drivers from Windows Update: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates. on Home, use Device Installation Settings > No.

  4. oh ive been there lol check teh vendors support page for an updated driver for your OS, sometimes Windows Update installs a newer vendor-provided version that has issues, and the vendor already has a fix.

  8. hmmm check which driver the queue uses: Printer properties > Advanced tab shows the driver name. You can switch it there to the vendor driver once it's installed, without removing the printer.

  11. hide the specific update: use Microsoft's "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter (wushowhide) to hide the printer driver update after u install the vendor driver. hope that helps :)

ok so for offices with multiple PCs, consider a print server or deploying the vendor driver by IP with a standard TCP/IP port. Discovery-based installs are more likely to pick a generic driver.
