  1. real story: I installed Fedora for a gamer six months ago. most things just work. the one ongoing headache is fingerprint readers. I'm curious whether others have had the same experience, and whether we're honest enough about the rough parts when we recommend Linux to people. everything else has been smooth: updates, browsing, video calls. nobody has called me about a virus once, which is a first. so is the problem Linux, or my expectations?

  4. The only must-have is the thing related to fingerprint readers. Everything else has alternatives. hope thats enough info 😅

  5. For basic use, browsing, email, documents and video calls, a mainstream distro like Debian is very usable today. The browser is most ppl's operating system now, and that runs the same everywhere.

  6. Try before switching: boot a live USB and test Wi-Fi, sound, webcam, printer and the specific apps first. Hardware surprises show up in the first ten minutes.

The best Linux installs for non-technical people are ones where someone else handles the setup and updaets 🤦 Enable automatic updates, pin the browser to the panel, and it can be more stable than teh Windows install it replaecd. lmk how it goes
