  1. every year someone says its finally the year of teh Linux desktop. im wondering if it quietly already happened. ive been thinking about puttnig Ubuntu on a machine for a student on a budget. browsing, email, video calls, maybe some light documents 😅 the one thing i worry about is anti-cheat games. is Linux actually ready for normal people, or are enthusiasts just too used to the rough edges to notice them?? seriously need help here 😭

  6. office formatting is real. libreOffice opens most documents fine, but complex layouts and macros can break. if someone shares documents with Office users daily, the web version of Office in a broswer is a practical workaround.

  8. oh ive been there lol games with kernel-level anti-cheat are still the biggest real blocker. Many single player games run through Proton on Steam, but check each games status on a compatibility database before switching a gamer. hope that helps :)

  9. Accepted solution

for printers, check if the model supports driverless printing (IPP Everywhere / AirPrint), most recent network printers just work through CUPS lol older USB printers with proprietary drivers are where the pain lives. hope that helps :)

  10. @mayac137 Decided against it for a student on a budget. The one app they need isn't worth fighting. Still using Linux myself though.
