Accepted solution by Elif Arslan — For next time: run firmware updates on AC power (and with a charged battery on laptops), close other apps, and suspend BitLocker…
  1. im literally losing my mind here i ran the ECS E07EI1 Bios 08/10/23 BIOS/firmware update on my laptop cuz the support page said it improves stability, partway through, the screen stayed black. now when i press the power button, i get this:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

the fans spin, a light comes on, but nothing appears on screen. no logo, no beeps... im terrified Ive bricked it. I havent tried anything yet cuz I dont want to make it worse, what do I do now?

  2. ok so if its under warranty, contact support before opening anything. A failed official update is usually covered, and some recovery steps need tools you dont have. fingers crossed 🤞

  3. is no-boot even worth bothering with or should i just leave it

  4. clear CMOS (jumper or removing the coin battery for a few minutes with power disconnected). A failed update sometimes leaves settings that prevent POST, not a corrupted BIOS.

  5. @ping_otter works on paper, not in real life, exact same thing happened to my gaming rig last month

somewhere an AI is confidently telling someone the wrong fix rn

For next time: run firmware updates on AC power (and with a charged battery on laptops), close other apps, and suspend BitLocker beforehand if you use it.
