Many desktop motherboards have BIOS Flashback/Q-Flash Plus or a dual BIOS. These let you flash from a USB stick without a CPU or a working BIOS. Check the motherboard manual for the exact file name and port.

  1. Firmware update nightmare.

Reboot and Select proper Boot device

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

I was updating the desktop's BIOS using the X48TurboTwins-WiFi Bios package from ASRock. Then it rebooted twice. Since then, black screen. I'm reasonably technical but I've never had to recover a BIOS. Is this repairable at home? The keyboard lights flash briefly when I press power, then nothing. I have another computer available to download files and prepare a USB stick if a recovery procedure needs it. I just don't want to make things worse by guessing.

  3. been there man clear CMOS (jumper or removing teh coin battery for a few minutes with power disconnected). A failed update sometimes leaves settings that prevent POST, not a corrupted BIOS. lmk how it goes

reading release notes like its a horror novel

  4. First, wait. Some firmware updtaes continue after a reboot with a black screen and fans at full speed. Leave it on, plugged in, for at least 15 to 20 minutes before concluding it failed.

nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround

    lol

  5. hmmm many laptops have a BIOS recovery mode: often holding a key combination (like Ctrl+Esc or Win+B) while connecting the charger, sometimes with a recovery file on a USB stick. check your PC makers support page for teh exact procedure for your model.
