  1. ok weird one my laptop wont boot after a firmware update.

Reboot and Select proper Boot device

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

the update was going fine until teh power flickered. I waited a long time before touching anything, then finally turned it off... now it powers on but shows nothing, ive read about BIOS recovery features but idk whether my machine has them, help me figure out my options before I start pricing new motherboards.

  4. Clear CMOS (jumper or removing the coin battery for a few minutes with power disconnected). A failed update sometimes leaves settings that prevent POST, not a corrupted BIOS.

  5. yeahhh many desktop motherboards have BIOS Flashback/Q-Flash Plus or a dual BIOS. these let you flash from a USB stick without a CPU or a working BIOS. check the motherboard manual for the exact file name and port.
