is driver-level frame generation real performance or just a fancy illusion?

  1. ok weird one genuine question from someone who doesnt fully get it.. 馃檹 if my base frame rate is 50 FPS and driver-level frame generation doubles the number on screen, is the game actually more responsive or just smoother to look at? and does that matter in competitive shooters? ive read a lot of strong opinions on both sides, but very few clear explanations, id appreciate a simple breakdown, plus your personal preference and why you landed on it. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  2. been there man use a frame rate cap slightly below your monitor's refresh rate with VRR enabled. generated frames above teh refresh rate are wasted and can increase latency. worked for me anyway 馃し

  3. Frame generation increases motion smoothness, but responsiveness still follows the base frame rate. Input latency is tied to real rednered frames, and generation itself adds a bit on top. So it looks smoother but doesnt feel faster.

  4. watch for artifacts around HUD elements, text and fast motion edges... some games handle those well, others show ghosting, and that varies per title more than per GPU.

  5. ok so a common rule of thumb: you want a solid base frame rate beofre turning it on, below roughly 60 FPS base, artifacts and latency become more noitceable... above that, many people cant tell the difference.

  6. lol same thing happened to me pair it with a latency reduction feature like NVIDIA Reflex or AMD Anti-Lag. Most implementations enable it automatically, but check teh in-game settings.

  7. oof try turning off the settings first, fixed it for me. @binary_works what did u end up doing in the end fingers crossed 馃

  9. @daemon_sprite-3hp nah thats not it, latency has nothing to do with it. bump. still happening with generation for me

  10. For competitive shooters most players keep it off. Latency and occasional artifacts around fast-moving UI or crosshairs matter more than smoothness there.

  13. @daemon_sprite-3hp omg finally learning that latency follows the base frame rate cleared up all my confusion. lowered a few settings first, then turned it on. much better. cant believe it was that simple lol
