Cap Your FPS Or Let It Run Wild? The 144 Hz Debate

  1. ive played fighting games uncapped forveer cuz i thought more FPS always means less lag, then a friend told me to cap at a few frames below my 144 Hz refresh rate with teh driver limiter... it honestly felt smoother, now Im confused... whats teh actual answer here? ive seen ppl swear by both approaches, and the explanations online contradict each other... im not a pro, but Id like to understand whats actually happening with input lag here, thanks in advance for sharing what works for u.

  2. ok so uncapped can reduce latency in some competitive games when the frame rate is far above refresh, but only if the GPU isn't maxed out. A GPU at 99% usage queues frames and actually increases latency. reflex or Anti-Lag help with that.

  3. oof with VRR (G-Sync or FreeSync) teh usual recommendation is: enable VRR, enable V-Sync in the driver, and cap a few frames below teh refresh rate. that keeps u inside teh VRR range and avoids tearing and V-Sync latency.

  4. yeahhh if you play competitively and see big FPS swings, test both with a frame time graph. Use what gives the flattest line at an acceptable latency.

  7. Capping reduces heat, power and fan noise, especially in menus. Many games also have a separate menu frame limit setting. worked for me anyway 馃し

  9. oh ive been there lol frame time consistency mtaters more than average FPS for perceived smoothness. A stable capped rate often feels better than a fluctuating higher one.

  10. ok so in-game limiters are often teh lwoest latency optoin cuz teh game knows when to start teh next frame... the driver limiter is a good second choice 馃槀 external tools like RTSS give very stable frame times but can add a little latency.

  12. for pure competitive play at very high FPS, some players still prefer uncapped with Reflex... it's a valid choice if ur GPU has headroom.
