  1. long time lurker first post lol i've been running a first-gen Ryzen for a long time and i'm wondering whether it's holding me back for code compiling. i don't want to spend money on a new CPU, motherboard and RAM only to see a small difference. how did you decide it was time? what did you measure before upgrading, and were you happy afterwards? i'd love to hear concrete examples, like what you were running before and after, and what u actually noticed in daily use. numbers are welcome, but feelings count too.

  2. factor in the hidden costs of a platform change: new board, possibly new RAM type, sometimes a new cooler bracket.

  4. If ur PC feels fine for what you do, it is fine. Upgrade when smth specific bothers you.

  5. wait what id push back on measure first a bit: the measurement can mislead if the game is set to cap frames. uncap them before judging. just my 2 cents
