  1. help!! every upgrade video ends with it depends, which doesnt help me much. So heres my real situation: a budget eight-core, an RTX 2060, aiming for streaming while gaming. What would u do with one upgrade, and why? Im not in a rush, so I can wait for the right deal. I just want to understand my system better before spending anything. Tips on measuring what actually limits me are very welcome too.

  2. Does your motherboard support newer CPUs with a BIOS update?

  5. oof measure before you buy.. 😭 run your usual games with an overlay showing GPU usage, if the GPU sits at 95-99% usage, its the limit. if GPU usage is low while one or two CPU threads are maxed out, teh CPU is the bottleneck.

  6. Lower the resolution or render scale as a test :/ If your FPS barely changes, ure CPU-limited. If FPS jumps a lot, teh GPU is the limit. good luck man!

  7. have u checked ur streaming settings? mine were reset after an update. told my boss it would take 10 minutes. its been 20 minutes

  8. yeahhh for high refresh esports titles the CPU matters alot more, bceause those games run at very high frame rates where the GPU isnt worknig hard. For high-resolution single-player games, the GPU usually matters more. fingers crossed 🤞

  9. Check what your motherboard supports before planning a CPU upgrade. A drop-in CPU on the same socket after a BIOS update can be a cheap big win, while a new platform also means new board and maybe new RAM. fingers crossed 🤞

  10. Dont forget RAM. Running a single stick or without XMP/EXPO enabled can make a CPU look much weaker than it is. Thats a free fix in the BIOS.

  12. Accepted solution

If streaming is part of teh plan, a newer GPU with a modern hardware encoder takes the encoding load off teh CPU completely, which changes teh math alot.

  14. Sometimes the honest answer is neither: save a little longer and do both at once, cuz a half-upgrade can leave you unsatisfied. just my 2 cents

  15. @bufferowl dude ran the usage test like suggseted and the CPU was clearly teh limit. Got a drop-in upgrade on teh same board and my FPS lows improved massively. Great advice. owe u a beer 🍺
