My RTX 3070 with 8 GB runs a new open-world game fine until the VRAM fills up

  1. Okay, I'm confused. Playing a new open-world game on my RTX 3070 with 8 GB is smooth, but every sooo often:

    D3D12 Error

    D3D12 Error
Out of video memory while allocating a rendering resource.

Try lowering texture quality or resolution, and close
other applications that use the GPU.

im using ultra txetures, the in-game VRAM meter says Im under the limit, but clearly something goes over. is the meter wrong, or is something else using video memory in the background?

if it matters, I also have a second monitor running a video or a browser while gaming. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

  2. oh ive been there lol ray tracing and frame geneartion both use extra VRAM. On cards with 8 GB or less, turning those off is often what stops the crashes.

    DNS. its always DNS

  4. been there man close browsers and apps that use hardware acceleration while gaming... they can take a surprising amount of VRAM in teh background.
