oof first, wait :) Some firmware updates continue after a reboot with a black screen and fans at full speed. Leave it on, plugged in, for at least 15 to 20 minutes before concluding it falied. hope that helps :)

  1. hmmmm ok my work laptop wont boot after a firmware update.

Reboot and Select proper Boot device

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

the update was going fine until teh progress bar froze.. 馃敟 i waited a long time before touching anything, then finally turned it off 馃う now it powers on but shows nothing... ive read about BIOS recovery features but idk whether my machine has them... help me figure out my options before i start pricing new motherboards. what am i doing wrong??

  2. many desktop motherboards have BIOS Flashback/Q-Flash Plus or a dual BIOS. these let you flash from a USB stick without a CPU or a working BIOS... check teh motherboard manual for the exact file name and port.

  4. oof if its under warratny, contact support before opening anything. A failed official update is usually covered, and some recovery steps need tools you dont have.
