yeahhh test with a second display output or a different port. if artifacts move with teh srceen content in screenshots, its rendering (GPU)... if they dont appear in a screenshot but do on the monitor, the cable, port or monitor itself is involved. worked for me anyway 馃し

  1. i installed the NVIDIA GeForce Notebook Graphics Driver 301.42 update last night and this morning my living-room PC looked like this in 3D apps:

    gpu artifacts

little colored blocks, flickering lines, sometimes a whole strip of the screen goes green for a moment. it doesnt crash, it just looks horrible 馃敟 my stomach dropped cuz artifacts usually mean dying hardware, right? but its supsicious that it started exactly after teh update. how do i tell which one it is without spending money? what am i doing wrong??

  3. your BIOS observation is a good clue. if artifacts appear only after Windows loads teh driver, but not in BIOS or in Safe Mode (which uses the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter), that leans towards driver/software. if they show up in BIOS too, think hardware.
