ur BIOS observation is a good clue. if artifacts appear only after Windows loads the driver, but not in BIOS or in Safe Mode (which uses the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter), that leans towards driver/software. if they show up in BIOS too, think hardware.

  1. ok weird one i installed teh NVIDIA ForceWare Beta Drivers 163.71 update last night and this morning my gaming desktop looked like this on teh desktop:

    gpu artifacts

Little colored blocks, flickering lines, smoetimes a whole strip of teh screen goes green for a moment 😭 It doesnt crash, it just looks horrible. My stomach dropped because artifacts usually mean dying hardware, right? But its suspciious that it started exactly after the update. How do I tell which one it is without spending money? thx in advance!!

  2. oof if artifacts persist after DDU and an older driver, and even appear in BIOS, back up your data and look into warranty, dont keep stress testing a card that shows artifacts in BIOS.

the real fix was the friends we made along the way

  4. yeahhh do a proper clean install of the previous driver: download it from the NVIDIA support page, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, then install. A plain rollback in Device Manager sometimes leaves the problematic profiles in place.

  15. ahh classic reset any oevrclock or undervolt, especially memory clock. artifacts that look like small colored blocks are often VRAM instability, and a driver update can change memory behavior enough to tip a marginal OC over.

  16. Check that the PCIe power connectors are fully seated and not melted or discolored 😤 Power issues can produce artifacts under load.
