does updating 10/100m/1000m gigabit ethernet pci actually help competitive strategy games on wi-fi?

  1. I keep reading guides that say to tweak network adapter settings for competitive strategy games: disable interrupt moderation, disable power saving, change buffers. Some of it sounds like cargo cult stuff ;) On Wi-Fi, what has actually helped u? 馃槀 And does updating 10/100M/1000M Gigabit Ethernet PCI matter? Im especially interested in what you measured before and after, not just what felt better. If u tried a tweak and it did nothing, thats usfeul information too. any ideas??

  4. ahh classic itnerrupt moderation tweaks can lower latency slightly but increase CPU usage... the difference is usually small.. ;) id only test it if uve ruled out bigger issues. good luck man!

  6. ugh. reading this at 2am instead of sleeping, no regrets

the real fix was the friends we made along the way

  7. oof for a racing game, the biggest latency factors are usually Wi-Fi interference, router bufferbloat and teh route to teh server... drivers matter less, unless a specific version has a bug, test with a wired connection first if you can.

  8. ahh classic to measure, run ping -t to your router and to an outside address at the same time while playing :D if the router ping spikes too, the issue is local (Wi-Fi/driver/interference). if only teh outside ping spikes, its further out.
