  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts i sat down to join a call this morning and my home-built tower was completely silent. no sound from teh a soundbar, no startup chime, nothing. the speaker icon has a red X and Sound settings says there are no output devices. last night Windows installed teh Creative MediaSource 3 web update 3.30.21 for PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook & Audigy 4 update, and Im pretty sure thats teh culprit. when I open Device Manager I see this:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    i've rebooted twice and run the audio troubleshooter, which claims it fixed smth... it didn't... i don't know whether i should reinstall the driver, roll it back, or something else entirely.. :) where should i start so i don't make it worse? pls help 🙏

  2. Many vendor audio packages split into a base driver plus extension/component drivers. If only part of it updated, things break. Download the complete package from your PC or motherboard makers support page and install it over teh top.

  3. Accepted solution

    lol same thing happened to me open Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers, right-click teh audio device > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. if its greyed out, choose Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick from a list and select the previous version or High Definition Audio Device (the Microsoft geenric driver) as a test. good luck man!

  5. @proxyrider Installed the complete package from the support page instead of the partial Windows Update one. Sound is back and the equalizer works too.
