oof open Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers, right-click teh audio device > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. If its greyed out, choose Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick from a list and select the previous version or High Definition Audio Device (the Microsoft generic driver) as a test.

  1. im literally losing my mind here i sat down to join a call this morning and my family PC was completely silent. No sound from the studio monitors, no startup chime, nothing. The speaker icon has a red X and Sound settings says there are no output devices. Last night Windows installed the Microsoft Realtek HD Audio Codec Driver 6.0.1.8454 update, and Im pretty suree thats teh culprit. When I open Device Manager I see this:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    Ive rebooted twice and run the audio troubleshooter, which claims it fixed something. It didnt. I dont know whether I should reinstall the driver, roll it back, or something else entirely. Where should I start so I dont make it worse?
