genuine question: do network drivers affect latency in a meaningful way for cloud gaming? i'm on a mesh network. my adapter uses Linksys WPC55AG - Dual-Band Wireless A+G Notebook Adapter... i'd like to optimize, but i don't want to break things based on random advice, if you've tested changes yourself, i'd love to hear what you measured and what made a real difference, i'm happy to run tests and report back here.
interrupt moderation, offloads, power saving: what helps cloud gaming?
Accepted solution
Jump to the replybeen there man for a racing game, teh biggest latency factors are usually Wi-Fi interference, router bufferbloat and teh route to teh server. Drivers matter less, unless a specific version has a bug. Test with a wired connection first if u can.
+1 same here, dumb question but how do i even check teh power plan
have u checked your linksys settings? mine were reset after an update
my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure

bump, still happening with notebook for me good luck man!
yeah so spikes seem roughly periodic, every minute or sooo.
btw mods can we pin this thread
have u tried turning it off and on again (im only half joking)
To measure, run
ping -tto your router and to an outside address at the same time while playing. If the router ping spikes too, the issue is local (Wi-Fi/driver/interference). If only the outside ping spikes, it's further out.
Update the driver if the release notes mention fixes relevant to you, or if ure on a very old version. Keep the previous one handy in case it gets worse.
windows update said 'this will only take a moment' 3 hours ago
ok so interrupt moderation tweaks can lower latency slightly but increase CPU usage, the difference is usually small... id only test it if youve ruled out bigger issues. fingers crossed 馃
yeahhh power saving on the adapter can cause periodic spikes, in Device Manager > adapter > Properties > Power Management, untick Allow the computer to turn off this device, and check the Advanced tab for power saving modes. lmk how it goes
holy cow ok update: did what @uplinkfiddler said and its fine now. is linksys even worth bothering with or should i just leave it thank u thank u thank u

@rowan_quiet omggg disabled adapter power saving and the periodic spikes stopped. Updated WPC55AG - Dual-Band Wireless A+G Notebook Adapter too for good measure.
