a USB headset drops out at random, and the port stays dead until a restart, i updated the chipset driver from ASRock last week, and thats when it started... i checked Device Manager and sometimes a USB controller shows a warning. What should i look at first? :D Ive already tried another cable and a different device in teh same port. Id rather not replace teh motherboard if a setting can fix it.

  4. ok so if everything fails and ports die even in a fresh Windows install or in a Linux live USB, teh problem is hardware (motherboard or power), not drivers.

my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure

  5. If one heavy device like a gaming headset with a mic drops out, try a powered hub. Some ports can't supply enough current, and that can look exactly like a driver problem.

nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround

  6. Install the chipset package that the PC or motherboard maker lists for your exact model, rather than a generic one from ASRock, and check for a BIOS update. USB stability often depends on both.
