My Home-Built PC Stops Seeing A Webcam Until I Reboot. Chipset Driver??

if everything fails and ports die even in a fresh Windows install or in a Linux live USB, the problem is hardware (motherboard or power), not drivers. fingers crossed 🤞

    not gonna lie this is driving me nuts since installing ASRock Fatal1ty X79 Champion Bios 1.20, the USB ports on my home-built PC randomly stop working. a webcam disconnects, teh Windows disconnect sound plays, and then nothing in that port works until I reboot. Sometimes I get this:

    it's not one port either, it moves around. i've tried different cables and devices 😤 before the update, i never had USB problems. is it possible a chipset driver broke USB, or is my motherboard giving up?? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

    ok so mostly with a webcam, but my mouse dropped out once too. hope thats enough info 😅

    Disable USB power saving as a test: Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Disabled. Then in Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, for each USB Root Hub, untick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

    lol same thing happened to me check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System around teh disconnect time for events from USBHUB3, USBXHCI or Kernel-PnP. errors there point to the controller driver or power issues. lmk how it goes

    @shaddad Disabled selective suspend and the root hub power saving. No disconnects in a week... a webcam works reliably now. seriously made my day 😭🙏
