  1. USB is acting cursed on my laptop.

a keyboard drops out at random, and the port stays dead until a restart. I updated the chipset driver from ASRock last week, and that's when it started. I checked Device Manager and sometimes a USB controller shows a warning. what should I look at first? I've already tried another cable and a different device in teh same port. I'd rather not replace teh motherboard if a setting can fix it. thx in advance!!

  2. check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System around teh disconnect time for events from USBHUB3, USBXHCI or Kernel-PnP. Errors there point to the controller driver or power issues.

  5. been there man if one heavy device like mechanical keyboard drops out, try a powered hub. Some ports cant supply enough current, and that can look exactly like a driver problem.

  6. Disable USB power saving as a test: Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Disabled. Then in Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, for each USB Root Hub, untick Allow teh computer to turn off this device to save power.
