  1. I installed the NVIDIA GeForce Notebook Graphics Driver 304.48 Beta update last night and this morning my living-room PC looked like this in the browser:

    gpu artifacts

Little colored blocks, flickering lines, sometimes a whole strip of the screen goes green for a moment. It doesn't crash, it just looks horrible. My stomach dropped because artifacts usually mean dying hardware, right? But it's suspicious that it started exactly after the update. How do I tell which one it is without spending money?

  2. Reset any overclock or undervolt, especially memory clock. Artifacts that look like small colored blocks are often VRAM instability, and a driver update can change memory behavior enough to tip a marginal OC over.

  3. test with a second display output or a different port. if artifacts move with teh screen content in screenshots, its rendering (GPU). if they dont appaer in a screenshot but do on the monitor, teh cable, port or monitor itself is involved.

  5. Accepted solution

ahh classic do a proper clean install of the previous driver: download it from teh NVIDIA support page, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, then install. A plain rollback in Device Manager sometimes leaves the problematic profiles in place.

  7. @mateok598 DDU plus teh previous NVIDIA driver and the artifacts are completely gone. so relieved i didn't buy a new card in a panic.
