lol same thing happened to me check that teh PCIe power connectors are fully seated and not melted or discolored, power issues can produce artifacts under load.

  1. i installed the NVIDIA GeForce Quadro Graphics Driver 331.79 for FreeBSD 32-bit update last night and this morning my home-built PC looked like this in 3D apps:

    gpu artifacts

Little colored blocks, flickering lines, sometimes a whole strip of the screen goes green for a moment. It doesnt crash, it just looks horrible. My stomach dropped because artifacts usually mean dying hardware, right? 馃し But its suspicious that it started exactly after teh update. How do i tell which one it is without spending money?

  2. hmmm do the artifacts show up in BIOS or in Safe Mode, or only in normal Windows? ??

  3. yeah so booted into Safe Mode and the screen was clean. back to normal mode, artifacts in 3D apps again. idk what else to say tbh

  4. your BIOS observation is a good clue. if artifacts appear only after Windows loads the driver, but not in BIOS or in Safe Mode (which uses teh Microsoft Basic Display Adapter), that leans towards driver/software. if they show up in BIOS too, think hardware. good luck man!
