run System Settings Internet Test Connection and check the NAT type :) NAT type A or B is usually fine for most games. C, D or F can cause exactly this.

for me it was teh thermal paste, swapped it and boom, fixed hope that helps :)

Make suree you picked the right architecture and teh right OS family. A package meant for a different Windows edition, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with teh same generic text.

PC makers sometimes customize drivers for their hardawre: antenna configuration, power management, or combined Wi Fi/Bluetooth behavior. The chip makers generic driver usually works fine but may not include those tweaks.
