ehh honestly i would return it anyway. u paid for new, and the peace of mind is worth the hassle of a swap. exchange it for the same model if u liked everything else.

do other discs work in the same console?

Check that the driver install didnt reset your control panel settings (power management mode, low latency mode, V Sync, frame caps). A clean install resets everything to defaults, which can feel like a performance change.
