my headset through an audio interface works in discord but is silent in-game. what gives?

not gonna lie this is driving me nuts this is making ranked games miserable. In a scoial deduction game, push-to-talk does notihng. Im using a headset through an audio interface. After a Windows update i got this message:

USB Audio Device Properties
Device status:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

Other apps work. Just the games voice chat is broken. Any ideas?

discord and system sounds all work normally with teh same headset, only teh game's own voice chat seems to be affected, which makes this realy confusing to me. pls help 🙏
