  1. ok weird one every project starts teh same way: I import iPhone HEVC footage into DaVinci Resolve and get media offline right after import:

    Media Import

    Media Import
Unable to decode the selected clip.

    C0042.MP4 - H.265 / HEVC, 4:2:2, 10-bit
This format is not supported for decoding on this
system. The clip will appear offline.

Ive been converting files with random online tools, but teh quality suffers. Is there a proper workflow?

id like a worklfow that doesnt destroy quality or require a different converter every time, ideally smth i can set up once and then forget about... i can post teh media info output if that helps anyone diagnose it. what am i doing wrong??

  3. ok so the free version of Resolve on Windows has limited H.264/H.265 support for certain profiles, especially 10-bit 4:2:2 🙏 resolve on Linux doesnt support H.264/AAC in teh free version at all :) check what your version supports before assuming the files are broekn. good luck man!

  5. if a clip is in an MKV container (Resolve's MKV support is limited depending on version), remux to MP4 without re-encoding using FFmpeg: ffmpeg -i input.mkv -c copy output.mp4. It's lossless and takes seconds. iPhone footage is already MOV/MP4 tho, so for ur clips this one doesnt apply.

  6. For a reliable editing workflow, transcode to an intermediate codec: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v dnxhd -profile:v dnxhr_hqx -pix_fmt yuv422p10le -c:a pcm_s16le output.mov. dnxhr_hqx keeps teh 10-bit (plain dnxhr_hq is 8-bit only). larger files, but editors handle them perfectly.
