  1. im literally losing my mind here my secondhand laptop has been trying to install teh .NET cmuulative update for a week. it downloads, asks to restart, gets to 100% and then says its undoing changes. back in Windows, i get this:

    Windows Update

    Windows Update
    We couldn't complete the updates.
Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.

    Error code: 0x800f0922

Error 0x800f0922. Ive rebooted more times than I can count. Im worried that if I keep ignoring it Ill miss important security fixes. Is there something broken on my drive? lol Ive also checked that theres plenty of free space, and the internet connection is stable the whole time. It feels like the secondhand laptop is fine until teh very last step, then it simply gives up.

  2. hmmm repair teh component store, which update installs depend on:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow

Then look at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log around teh failure time for the actual failing component. fingers crossed 🤞

Reset the update components before trying again:

    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv

  4. id skip teh partition surgery if youre not comfortable with it. an in-place repair upgrade fixes this for most ppl without touching partitions manually.
