  1. im literally losing my mind here a third-person adventure looks gorgeous on my RTX 4070, but it keeps freezing for a split second during the first hour, the FPS counter says high numbers, then a spike in frame time, then smooth again... after teh latest driver install I also got this notice:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    i lowered every setting and it didn't help at all. is this my PC, or is this the infamous shader compilation stutter?

    ive already tried lowering settings, turning off ray tracing and capping the frame rate. the avergae FPS barely matters, its these hitches that ruin teh experience. any ideas are welcome.

  2. is teh game installed on an SSD or a hard drive? ??

  3. been there man make sure the game and its shader cache live on an SSD, not a hard drive... reading cached shaders from a slow disk can create hitches of its own. hope that helps :)

  4. In the NVIDIA Control Panel, set Shader Cache Size to a large value or Unlimited under Manage 3D settings. On AMD, make sure teh shader cache is enabled in Adrenalins graphics settings. A cache thats too small gets evicted constantly.

  5. Accepted solution

    ahh classic cap ur frame rate a bit below ur monitors refresh rate with the drivers limiter or an in-game cap. it doesnt remove compilation stutter, but it gives teh CPU headroom to compile in teh background, which shortens the spikes. fingers crossed 🤞

  6. nah tbh id honsetly blame the game more than the PC here. some titles simply compile too much at runtime, and no setting fully fixes that until a patch arrives. idk maybe im wrong lol

  7. @milan_voxel Let the shader compile step run fully this time and set the cache to unlimited. The stutter is mostly gone in a third-person adventure :) Thanks for explaining what was actually happening.
