what does nxdomain actually mean for the client's .io domain?

  1. ok weird one not my first domain, but this one has me stumped. After turning on DNSSEC, teh client's .io domain stopped reoslving completely.

the zone at my DNS provider has the A record, teh www record, everything. online checkers from different locations disagree with each other. some resolve it, most dont. I suspect something at the registry level but I dont know how to verify that lol any hints?? im comfortable with the command line, sooo feel free to get technical.

  2. start from teh top of the chain: dig +trace example.com follows the delegation from the root servers down. if it stops at the TLD servers with no NS recodrs, the registrar doesnt have your nameservers set. if it reaches your nameservers but they return NXDOMAIN, the zone itself is missing or the record isnt there. worked for me anyway 🤷
