  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts not my first domain, but this one has me stumped. after transferring registrars, our blog's custom domain stopped resolving completely.

The zone at my DNS provider has the A record, the www record, everything. Online checkers from different locations disagree with each other. Some resolve it, most dont. i suspect something at teh registry level but idk how to verify that. Any hints? Im comfortable with the command line, so feel free to get technical.

  2. wait what does dig +trace show for the domain, and where does it stop?

  3. ok so WHOIS shows clientHold. I never got an email... or maybe it went to an old address after transferring registrars. idk what else to say tbh

  4. lol same thing happened to me start from the top of the chain: dig +trace example.com follows teh delegation from the root servers down. if it stops at teh TLD servers with no NS records, teh registrar doesnt have ur nameservers set. if it reaches ur nameservers but they return NXDOMAIN, the zone itself is missing or the record isnt there.

ahh classic check the registry status with a WHOIS lookup. Statuses like clientHold or serverHold mean the domain is removed from DNS, commonly after a late renewal or an unverified registrant email address. Look for a verification email from the registrar and complete it; the hold usually lifts shortly after.
