  1. ive been using Chrome for a machine with 8 GB of RAM for a while now, and lately I keep wondering whether Im just using it out of habit. every few months someone tells me another browser is faster, more private, or better for my exact situtaion. im not interested in fanboy wars, I genuinely wanna hear from ppl whove used a few of them seriously. what made u pick yours, and what would make you switch?

  3. ok so its my own machine, so no IT policies to fight... i just want a machine with 8 GB of RAM to feel smooth.

  5. oof most mainstream browsers are fast enough today. id choose on dev tools quality, privacy defaults and how much the vendor pushes its own services in the UI. the last one is what annoys ppl most over time. good luck man!

  6. ahh classic on low-RAM machines the biggest win isn't teh browser brand, it's discipline: tab suspenison (built in to most browsers now as memory saver or tab slepeing), fewer extensions, and not keeping three web apps pinned. Measure with the browser's own task manager before switching.

  8. yeahhh for web development Id say the browser you test in matters more than the one you browse in. use whatever you like daily, but keep at least one Chromium browser, Firefox and Safari (or a WebKit-based test browser) around. bugs that only show in one engine are still very real. good luck man!

  9. lol same thing happened to me extensions are teh real decider for me. Before switching, list the extensions u cant live without and check they exist and are maintained for the new browser. Everything else is mostly taste.

hmmm for privacy, defaults matter because most people never change settings. look at what each browser blocks out of the box: third-party cookies, fingerprinting scripts, bounce tracking. then check what it sends home by default and whether you can turn it off.

  11. hmmmm not sure about that respectfully, monoculture is a real concern, choosing a browser on a less dominant engine helps keep teh web standards-based, even if its slightly less convenient. idk maybe im wrong lol
