Accepted solution by Clara Kowalski — oof open Resource Monitor (resmon), go to the Disk tab, and sort by Total (B/sec) . ull see exactly which process is reading or writing 👍…
  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts something is choking my PC. Loading screens take forever, textures pop in late, and a racing game stutters constantly. Task Manager:

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%
    Not responding

100% disk, and the response time numbers look scary. i suspect Windows Update, but i'm not sure how to prove it.

I already restarted the PC and closed everything I could find in the system tray. Disk usage dropped for a moment, then went straight back up as soon as the game loaded a new area. any ideas??

  3. ahh classic check drive health with wmic diskdrive get status for a basic result, or a SMART tool like CrystalDiskInfo, reallocated or pending sectors on a hard drive explain extremely high response times.

oof open Resource Monitor (resmon), go to the Disk tab, and sort by Total (B/sec). ull see exactly which process is reading or writing 👍 Thats far more useufl than Task Managers percentage.

  5. id not diasble Windows Update or antivirus completely, scheduling them and adding game foledr exclusions gets you the benefit without the risk. idk maybe im wrong lol
