  1. quick question before I buy a new USB flash drive:

That's what i see whenever i connect it through the rear USB 3.0 port. i rebooted, uninstalled the device in Device Manager, and tried again. Same thing. Is there anything else on the software side worth trying first? i don't mind digging into settings or drivers, i just don't want to spend money on a new USB flash drive if the old one is perfectly fine. Any checklist would be very welcome.

  4. descriptor Request Failed means the device didnt answer Windows properly during setup, sooo its usually power or signal, not drivers. plug it directly into a rear motherboard port, not a hub or front panel, and try again.

  5. been there man shut teh PC down completely, unplug teh power cable for a minute, then boot. This clears teh USB controller state and fixes a surprising number of these.

  6. Disable USB selective suspend: Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Disabled. Also check Device Manager > USB Root Hub > Power Management and untick Allow the cmoputer to turn off this device. fingers crossed 🤞

  7. been there man in Device Manager, uninstall every entry under Universal Serial Bus controllers, then reboot. Windows reinstalls them on startup. Also install the chipset driver from ur motherboard or laptop makers site. lmk how it goes

  8. oof if teh game controller draws a lot of power, a bus-powered hub or a long cable can starve it. Try a powered hub or the shortest cable you own.

  10. been there man if it fails on every port of this PC but works elsewhere, check Event Viewer under Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-PnP for teh devices errors around the time you plug it in.

  12. hmmmm not sure about that i wouldnt uninstall all USB controllers if youre using a USB keyboard and mouse on a desktop without a backup. A reboot fixes it, but its a scary few minutes.

  13. @anikas59 it was the extension cable... plugged teh USB flash drive directly in and it works every time now. can't believe it was that simple.
