  1. weird one. from a coworking space, L2TP connects and then nothing internal resolves:

If i type the IP address of internal websites directly it sometimes works! But names fail every time. Help me before i start memorizing IP addresses.

ive also flushed the DNS cache, rebooted my laptop and tried a different browser, just in case 😅 no change. im convinced its something about how names are looked up over L2TP, but i dont know where to look. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  4. separate routing from DNS... try teh internal IP directly: if the IP works but the name fails, its DNS.. ;) check which DNS servers are in use while connected (ipconfig /all on Windows, resolvectl status on Linux, scutil --dns on macOS).

  5. hmmm classic ovelrap: your home network uses the same subnet as the office (both 192.168.1.0/24, for example). traffic to internal IPs then stays on ur local LAN. check route print or ip route. the long-term fix is moving the office or VPN range to a less common subnet. worked for me anyway 🤷

lol same thing happened to me for split tunnel setups, the internal subnets must be in the pushed routes (AllowedIPs in WireGuard, push "route ..." in OpenVPN). If the file share lives in a subnet not in that list, it goes out your normal internet connection instead. hope that helps :)

  7. @darion221 yesss added the internal DNS server and search domain to the L2TP config. names resolve and internal websites opens.
