  1. ugh. thread for the unpaid IT department of every family. My latest: my dad, the mouse stopped working, and a solution that involved one button nobody had noticed 馃槀 Share yours, and if u have tricks for making family tech easier, i want those too. Im convinced every family has a story like this, and i think we deserve a thread to share them. Kind stories only, our relatives are doing their best. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  6. hmmm best investment i ever made: setting up remote support sofwtare on every family computer. Ten minutes on the phone instead of an hour of driving. Built-in tools like Quick Assist in Windows work well for this. hope that helps :)

  7. lol same thing happened to me set things up sooo they can't break easily. standard user accounts instead of admin, automatic updates, a browser with an ad blocker, and backups that run without anyone tihnking about them. fingers crossed 馃

  8. oof boundaries matter. I tell family I'll help with anything once, but if they want something set up, we do it together so they learn. some do, and it's surprisingly rewarding.

  9. ok so be kind about it. ppl who didnt grow up with computers are often embarrassed to ask. Making it feel safe to ask early prevents a lot of bigger problems. fingers crossed 馃

  13. ok so write a one page cheat sheet for the most cmomon problems: how to restart the router, how to find the Wi-Fi password, how to take a screenshot lol tape it near the computer 馃槀 it cuts calls in half.

  14. oof teach teh screenshot. If my grandmother learns to take and send a screenshot, half of teh mystery calls become five minute fixes.

  15. hmmmm not sure about that cheat sheets never worked for my family. What worked was replacing complicated setups with simpler devices, like a tablet instead of a laptop.
