  1. so annoyed rn did a clean Windows install on my thin ultrabook and now theers no sound at all. The speaker icon has a red X and says this:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    'No audio output device is installed.' Device Manager shows a couple of unknown devices under 'Other devices'. Which driver should i be looking for? Everything else works fine: Wi-Fi, touhcpad, display. It's just the sound. i'm guessing a single missing driver, but i don't know which one or where to get it.

  4. ahh classic on many modern Intel laptops, the audio needs a chain of drivers: chipset, then Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) drivers, then the codec driver (often Realtek). if teh SST layer is missing, the codec installer says no hardware is present.

  6. ahh classic get the audio drivers from ur laptop makers support page for your exact model. Install chipset first, then any Intel SST or audio DSP package, then teh audio driver, rebooting between each.

  8. Check Device Manager > Other devices for 'Multimedia Audio Controller' or similar with a hardware ID. If it starts with INTELAUDIO or the VEN_8086 ID matches an audio DSP, that confirms the SST layer is missing. lmk how it goes
