  1. driver request: my convertible laptop lost its audio after a factory reset.

Windows Update ran several times and installed other things, but sound is still dead. i tried the generic Realtek driver from somewhere online, and the installer said the hardware isn't present lol i'm stuck. i'd like to avoid downloading random audio drivers from the internet again. If someone knows the proper order for modern lpatops, i'd realy appreciate it.

  2. oh ive been there lol on many modern Intel laptops, the audio needs a chain of drivers: chipset, then Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) drivers, then the codec driver (often Realtek). If teh SST layer is missing, the codec installer says no hardware is present. good luck man!

  3. check Device Manager > Other devices for Multimedia Audio Controller or similar with a hardware ID, if its a PCI\VEN_8086 ID that matches an audio DSP, that confirms the SST layer is missing. (if u see INTELAUDIO\... entries instead, SST is already in and its the codec driver thats missing)

  4. ahh classic when replacing the SSD and installing Windows from scratch, the makers recovery or driver pack for ur model often installs all of these in teh right order at once.

  8. once the makers driver pack gets it working, i'd suggest checking the device manager to see if the 'High Definition Audio Controller' or the specific 'Realtek' entry shows an exclamation mark. sometimes windows installs the generic driver but fails to initialize the specific hardware IDs for the jack vs speakers.
