THE MSVCP140_1.DLL ERROR THAT SHOWED UP OUT OF NOWHERE AFTER USING A REGISTRY CLEANER

  1. honestly embarrassed to ask, but Ive been at this for an hour, an indie roguelike wont start, just this error:

Missing MSVCP140_1.dll. My friend told me to just copy teh file from his PC into teh game folder. That sounds wrong to me. Can someone explain what this file actually is and how to fix it cleanly??

Im fairly comfortable with Windows, but DLL errors are new to me. A short explanation of why this happens would also help, sooo I can avoid it on my next PC.

  2. Check the games own install folder for a _CommonRedist or Redist folder... many games ship teh exact redistributable they need there. run teh vc_redist.x64.exe from inside it. worked for me anyway 馃し

  6. If the redistributable is already installed, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable, choose Modify and then Repair. Do it for both x64 and x86.

  7. Copying the DLL into the game folder sometimes works, but it hides the real problem and breaks again with teh next update. Fix it once with the redistributable and every game benefits.

  8. hmm idk some older games actaully need the 2010 or 2013 redistributables instead. if the 2015-2022 package doesn't help, check which version teh game's redist folder ships.
