the pump noise nobody mentions: aio owners, be honest

  1. ok so im planning a build with a 16-core CPU in a glass-panel showcase case and I keep going back and forth on cooling. Big tower air cooler, or a 240/280 AIO? Air feels sipmle and reliable. The AIO looks cleaner and Ive heard it helps with spikes. I care more about noise than squeezing out the last few degrees. What would you pick and why? Im also wondering about maintenance over the years. Dust, fan replacements, pump wear. What did u find easier to live with in teh long run? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  3. air coolers have one moving part you can replace: teh fan. an AIOs pump is the failure point, and when it goes, the whole unit gets replaced. worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. hmmm if u go AIO, mount the radiator so teh pump isnt the highest point of the loop... front mount with tubes at teh bottom, or top mount, both avoid air collecting in the pump. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. for small-form-factor builds, low-profile air coolers often lose to an AIO because theres no room for a tall heatsink. it really depends on teh case. lmk how it goes
