  1. I genuinely laughed, then I wanted to cry. My new gaming laptop blue-screened while copying my old files over, not even an hour into owning it.

If you call a support person, give them this info:
    Stop code: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

everything else seems fine: fans quiet, screen perfect, no weird noises... is a single crash on day one normal while Windows pulls updates in the background, or is it a sign of bad RAM or a bad SSD that will get worse after the 14 day return window closes?

  2. hmmm a lot of day-one crashes come from Windows Update installing generic drivers on top of teh manufacturers ones. Install the vendors own support app or chipset, graphics and Wi-Fi drivers from the support page, then run updates again. If it stays stable for a few days, it was software.

  3. oof my rule: one crash with a clear driver cause, keep it and update. two crashes with different stop codes in teh first week, return it while it is still the store's problem and not a warranty ticket.

  7. also check sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in an admin terminal. Factory iamges are not always perfect, and a broken system file can cause random crashes that look like hardware. good luck man!

  9. before deciding, read the stop code. open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for BugCheck events, or check C:\Windows\Minidump with WinDbg or BlueScreenView. A driver name in the dump points to sfotware, a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR or memory stop code points to hardware. worked for me anyway 🤷

  10. use the time you have, stress it on purpose: a long game session, a CPU benchmark loop, a big file copy... if it is gonna fail, you want it to fail inside the return window, not a month later.

  13. nah tbh i would not return over one crash :) every new Windows machine has a messy first day of updates. returning it just gets you another unit with teh same factory image and teh same first-day mess. but hey ymmv
