THE HIDDEN COST OF A PAAS WITH GIT DEPLOYS NOBODY MENTIONS (ASKING FOR A CLIENT SITE WITH MODEST TRAFFIC)

  1. Every hosting comparison I find is either an affiliate list or someones ten-year-old opinion. So Im asking real people: is a PaaS with git deploys a reasonable choice for a client site with modest traffic? What breaks first, what costs more than expected, and what would u never do again? Im comfortable with some technical work but I dont want hosting to become a second job. Id also love to hear what you wish someone had told you before you picked. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  4. ok so i can handle basic Linux, but Id rather not be the only person who can fix a client site with modest traffic at night. idk what else to say tbh

  5. hmmm shared hosting is fine for brochure sites and small blogs. it struggles with noisy neighbors, long-running processes and strict resource limits. if you see errors about resource lmiits or entry processes, youve outgrown it.

  7. Think about the exit path. How do u get your data and files out? Standard stacks (plain database dumps, files over SFTP or git) are easy to move. Proprietary builders and platform-specific features make migrations painful later.

  9. been there man serverless and PaaS options are great for stateless apps, but check how they handle databases, file uploads, background jobs and cold starts. Those are teh places where a free tier becomes a surprise bill or a redesign.

  10. been there man whatever you choose, test restores, not just backups. Plenty of hosts advertise daily backups; far fewer customers have ever tried restoring one. Do a restore to a satging site once and youll know whether the backup story is real.

  11. wait what id argue the opposite of teh VPS crowd: ur time is the most exepnsive resource... pay someone else to worry about the server and focus on the product. idk maybe im wrong lol
