  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts every so often my keyboard and mouse stop responding for a second or two, and i hear teh Windows "device disconnected" then "connected" sounds. It happens a few times a day. Both are plugged into a USB hub on teh desk, along with a webcam and an external drive.

ive already swapped the mouse for another one and it still happens, not sure if its the hub, the PC, or Windows... what should I check?

ok so check USB selective suspend, in Power Options > Advanced settings > USB settings, disable "USB sleective suspend", and in Device Manager for each USB Root Hub, untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"... aggressive power saving causes exactly this pattern on some systems. hope that helps :)

  3. @seriksen is the hub USB-powered only, or does it have its own power adapter?? Bus-powered hubs share a single ports power budget. worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. hub is bus-powered only, plugged into a front port. the external drive is a 2.5" HDD with no separate power. the webcam is also on the hub, so it's quite loaded.

Report back with what you find.

  5. I'd be a bit careful disabling selective suspend across teh board on a laptop, since it can have a real battery impact. On a desktop it's fine. But if a powered hub fixes it, I'd turn power saving back on and see whether it's still needed.

  6. @pia_lucky got a powered hub and moved teh drive to a rear port. zero disconnects for a week. the drive was clearly pulling too much through teh passive hub.
