Accepted solution by Ava — oh ive been there lol on Linux, sudo dmidecode t memory and sudo dmidecode s system serial number give teh same kinda info.
  1. ugh. old-school admins used wmic for hardware queries. Microsoft deprecated it, and on Windows 11 24H2 it's an optional feature that's disabled by default. The replacement is PowerShell's CIM cmdlets.

Examples i use now: Get-CimInstance Win32_Processor | Select-Object Name, NumberOfCores, Get-CimInstance Win32_VideoController | Select-Object Name, DriverVersion, for serial and BIOS version Get-CimInstance Win32_BIOS | Select-Object SerialNumber, SMBIOSBIOSVersion, and for RAM part numbers Get-CimInstance Win32_PhysicalMemory | Select-Object Manufacturer, PartNumber, Capacity. All the same data WMIC exposed, just with longer names. It took me an afternoon to rewrite my old scripts. Anyone have favorite one-liners to share?

  2. if you realy need WMIC on newer builds, it can be added back as an optional feature in Settings > System > Optional features, but scripts should move to PowerShell.
