Quick question: my PCIe Wi-Fi card is from a previous laptop and Id like to use it in my current PC. Realtek offers 10/100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet Driver. Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing? i dont mind some tinkering, but i dont want a security risk or random blue screens. If anyone has been through this with a similar old adapter, Id love to hear how it went and whether youd do it again or just buy a new one. what am i doing wrong??
WILL AN OLDER REALTEK DRIVER WORK ON NEWER WINDOWS IF I FORCE IT?
Accepted solution
Jump to the replyok so avoid unofficial driver sites and repackaged drivers. for network hardware especially, a tampered driver is a real risk. fingers crossed 馃
day one patch is bigger than the actual game, classic
Does Windows show it as an unknown device or not at all? ??
yeah so windows shows it as an unknown device.
nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround
hmmm drivers for older Windows versions sometimes work on newer ones, but they may fail driver signature requirements or core isolation (Memory integrity). If Windows blocks it, dont disable security features just for an old adapter. hope that helps :)
lol same thing happened to me same issue here on my old thinkpad. glad im not teh only one fingers crossed 馃
@idrisv847 WOWWW decided to retire the PCIe Wi-Fi card. the new one works without any driver install at all. seriously made my day 馃槶馃檹
my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure
